With over twenty eight years experience, Safety Stairways are one
of the largest manufacturers of Cast Iron Spiral Staircases in the UK
and include models both domestic and commercial to comply to
British Standards BS5395 Part 2 1984.
Safety Stairways have won many Design and Civic Awards
and also the National House Builders "Pride in the Job" award
on two occasions. We have also designed and installed cast balustrading
for the Guild Hall, Walsall, West Midlands, which has won the
Heritage Award from Prince Charles.

As designers and manufacturers our castings are of the highest
quality grade 14, The properties and tensile strength of the iron are
analysed by a spectrograph, which ensures the standard and definition
essential in producing high quality castings.
Safety Stairways advise clients that Cast Iron is superior over Alloy
when used for staircases in respect of fire resistance.
We refer to BS5395 Part 2 1984 British Code of Practice for the Design of
Helical and Spiral Stairs, pages 3 and 8. This document states that
materials
with a low melting point e.g. Aluminium should not be used to form the
only
escape stair in a building. This would include a main staircase or loft
staircase
in a dwelling which forms the main vertical escape route.
